‘Making Sense of Screening’ released today
The charity, Sense About Science, has released a new edition of their guide, Making Sense of Screening, today. The aim of the guide is to provide the public with valuable information to improve their understanding of screening programmes and to address the sometimes unrealistic expectations of what screening can deliver.
Dr. Freedman, Chair of the Lab Tests Online-UK Board, endorsed the guide and commented on the use of screening programmes:
“As professionals, we need to prevent over diagnosis in healthy individuals causing ‘pseudo disease’ through ‘unnecessary screening’. It leads to wasting of resources on unnecessary care, instead of using these precious resources for treating and preventing genuine illness.”
